Trinkets? Artificers should make them!

So last night I did an expert run in Lantern's Hook and got a trinket for my rogue. The one I replaced was a lvl 13 piece of gear. Yup, lvl 13.

I haven't seen many trinkets at all in the game beyond faction rewards from various zones. On my first lvl 50 character, I didn't finish all the zones nor did I work on faction. Perhaps that's why my poor lvl 50 rogue was still wearing a lvl 13 item.

So, ARE there enough trinkets in the game? And why can't Artificers make trinkets?
